Full Version: Large Hadron Collider

Great night to not sleep.

Picture this, a crystallized mass forming all over the Earth, turning everything you know into crystal. If you don't have the imagination, try to visualize a massive black hole forming over Germany and then engulfing the Earth.

Now, I've never been one to believe in Death Theories. That Mayan doomship about 2012, Y2K, all seems crazy to me, but 7000 scientists even putting the lives of Earth in their own hands makes me fell beyond uneasy.

Hence if the Chinese team at MIT is right, the probability of a runaway 'ice-9'-like type of reaction that will destroy the Earth, as stated by Nobel Prize Wilczek in Sci-Am, might be termed as 'very likely'.

You let things worry you too much man. At least this phenomena isn't singularly located outside your house - If all of this is true, it's going to kill everyone.

What I can't get over - is how this is not a naturally occurring event. This is going to happen because these planet-loving scientist are so set on building the LHC in the first place. If you're sure it will doom the planet...don't floundering build it then?

(And I think your wasting such a decent topic of discussion on this place)

The weirdest part is that it's just a chance. That's also what bugs me the most, in the end, it all boils down to whether or not String Theory is true. If it is, we live in a great age of science and immortality, and if not, we wind up a bunch of atoms or frozen crystallized figures.

Irony's such a bitch. Your greatest brain child will be the one driving the dagger through your back. Heh - I bet some of those eggheads wish they had put the telescope down once in a while. Going through all that discovery just to find out you're going to die.

....I've never heard of this theory before, nor have I heard of this LHC.

Like Xan said, if they think it may harm us....what's the sense in using it?

Meh, I'm not letting let some crazy scientific theory on how we'll all die get to me. If it's going to kill us, hurry the f*ck up and do so.

I'll just try and enjoy life in the meantime. If you think about it, we're pretty damn fragile to begin with.

That's why I don't have much interest in studying things such as this--makes you worry about things, when you could just die tomorrow.

Its all about proving theories

that's what is important to them I guess

from reading the article they seem fairly confident that this won't destroy the world

but this is venturing into uncharted territory to the extreme

I don't think its worth the risk, things are fine the way they are aren't they?

but they'll do it because they want a grand unifyed theory so badly
